Which is strange, since writing a Will is a relatively straightforward process, and even with the help of a professional the cost is quite small...  And you could save your loved ones an Inheritance Tax Bill of up to £124,800!!

For many people, finding the time to see a solicitor is hard. A couple may both work, and have difficulty taking time off together or be reluctant to do so in their 'holiday' time. The task is put off again and again… For others, they realise the importance of writing their Will, and have a go at drafting their own by using a DIY Will Pack. But they encounter legal issues they don’t fully understand, fail to finish the job, and the opportunity is lost.

At Lancaster Wills & Trusts we aim to make the Will-writing process as convenient and comprehensible as possible. We visit clients in the comfort of their own home, accommodating evening and weekend appointments where required. We assist clients in understanding the legal and financial outcomes that follow on from the decisions taken in drafting their Will. These may relate to Guardianship issues for minor children, or perhaps how their Estate will be affected by Inheritance Tax, and the options available to minimise or avoid it.

Once drafted, we don't just post your Will to you. We'll also hand deliver it and act as one of the two witnesses you need to complete the job, all without further charge if you live within 10 miles of our office! Solicitors rarely offer this level of service within their standard price, but we know how important this is to our clients, who are reassured that a legal expert has supervised their Will-signing and ensured no errors occur to invalidate the Wills.          

                                      

A valid Will is the foundation on which an Estate Plan is built. It provides the chance to meet the needs of loved ones long after you’ve gone, and also the ability to maximise the amount of money and assets that pass to your beneficiaries free of Inheritance Tax. For your minor children, the simple act of appointing Guardians in your Will stops the possibility of their being taken into care where no such provision has been made. And it allows you to choose who raises them, not the Courts.

You'll be seen by a Qualified Financial Planner and, as we only operate on a Fixed Fee basis, you can also be re-assured in the knowledge that no unexpected or 'hidden' charges can arise. All our work is fully insured and regulated by 'The Society of Will Writers', of whom we are a member.

You'll probably find that your local solicitor is charging at least £500 for just a Lasting Power of Attorney! This is an important document to have, as it is the only way you can determine who is given responsibilty to handle your financial affairs (or issues of Personal Welfare) should your mental capacity be compromised by accident or illness. Otherwise the Court of Protection will decide all matters for you and place significant limitations on the Attorney(s) it selects. You'll also be liable for the extra costs the Court of Protection incurs by not having completed a Lasting Power of Attorney in advance.
